Sorry DJ’s, from now on it’s the Dancers who rule the Floor
March 16, 2009 3
Last week, Apple released the new iPod shuffle, which now has the size of a regular USB-stick and actually talks to you. An amazing feat. But along with the shuffle, Apple updated iTunes, it’s music management software, to version 8.1 and Apple Remote, it’s remote control iPhone app, to version 1.2.
And that is where the party really starts to swing (at least, the idea behind it does).
You’re the DJ at your home party. You can simply give whoever is in da house access to your iTunes library in order to request songs.
Using their iPod Touch or iPhone (if your friends don’t have one, it definitely is time for you to get new and hipper friends), access your library and add songs to the queue.
Undoubtedly, you have already sensed the highly metaphorical strength of this iTunes DJ story. Obviously, we’re not in the business of ‘gadget talk’ or ’software review’: iTunes DJ, to us, is a portent of where marketing communication is heading. It has evolved into a true conversation, where not only consumers have a say. Now, they have the tools to take over the floor as well.
